Dear Chairman Manchin and Ranking Member Barrasso,
On behalf of energyRe, I write to express our strong support for the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 (S. 4753). As a leading independent U.S. clean energy developer advancing renewable power projects and state-of-the-art grid solutions across the country, we understand the growing need for federal permitting reform that facilitates the delivery of reliable and affordable energy to American homes and businesses and spurs long-term economic growth.
The U.S. is the most innovative economy in the world—and the U.S. electric grid is the backbone of that economy. Our businesses and our workforce depend on an abundant and resilient energy supply to continually drive advancement in cutting-edge, fast-growing industries. As companies seek to invest in emerging and transformative technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing, we need transmission systems that keep the U.S. at the forefront of the innovation economy, support new development, and encourage businesses to choose the U.S to expand operations and create new jobs.
The Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024 would stabilize and streamline what is currently a slow and inefficient permitting regime for large clean energy infrastructure. The bill would accelerate the deployment of critical transmission and facilitate the much-needed interregional transmission planning. We are especially supportive of the clear timelines for permitting and judicial review, which creates greater certainty and encourages private sector investment in transmission development—which, in turn, stimulates job creation and further economic growth.
We thank you for your leadership on this important legislation and your ongoing commitment to a robust American energy economy. energyRe stands ready to support commonsense energy permitting reform alongside our industry peers.
Sincerely,
Miguel Prado
